The idiotarod in San Francisco meant people dressed as dogs and raced down hills, stopping at bars to imbibe, with shopping carts, scooters and anything else to get them to the finish line. Flashmobs of crazy people gathering at last minute undisclosed locations- improv everywhere style.
Well it may have been banned in SF for a while but the NYC one just happened on Saturday 1/31/2009.

Teams of five racing for money across NYC dressed as dogs, horses and more. AWESOME.
Socrates Sculpture Park in Astoria, Queens was the scheduled starting point. A woman i met in Red Hook Saturday night said it was changed at the last minute to throw off cops and others.
